- I stay open for no man in these dark times. Things come with the night that no sane man would welcome.
- - Tavern Landlord
The Tavern Landlord was a minor character in Blood Omen .
Kain encountered the Tavern Landlord at the start of Blood Omen when still a Human. Kain entered his Tavern (which is unnamed) in Ziegsturhl. The Tavern Landlord paced back and fourth behind the bar and refused to serve Kain a drink after dark, throwing him out to the night and sealing his fate. Shortly afterward, the town was barricaded and Kain was attacked and killed by brigands sent by Mortanius.
Kain encountered the Tavern Landlord once more as he returned to the Tavern as a Vampire, where Kain could kill his patrons but not the Landlord himself; unless by the use of a Flay. It was left to the player's discretion whether Kain would return later, when he collected more powerful incantations, to take revenge.
Notes[edit | edit source]
When Kain returned to Ziegsturhl as a vampire, he could not take revenge on the Tavern Landlord by ordinary methods, as the Tavern Landlord was protected by his bar. However, it was possible to kill him with the Flay artifacts, and a short while later Kain would gain Wolf Form and be able to leap bars. Later on when Kain gained the Control Mind spell, he could use it to send the Tavern Landlord through a 'back door' entrance to a Spirit Forge, where he could sacrifice him for Artifacts.
