DeJoule's Insulating Cloak was a Pillar token, connected to DeJoule, the Energy Guardian, and the Pillar of Energy. In Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, upon killing DeJoule in the events of Blood Omen, Kain retrieved the Cloak, and used it to repair the corrupt Energy Pillar for a short period.

Profile[]

"The cloak of DeJoule is fashioned from a strange substance, dense yet pliant. It served to both gather and shield the sorceress from the forces of energy she commanded."

The Insulating Cloak was a gift to DeJoule from the Pillars of Nosgoth, and her individual token as the Energy Guardian.[Blood Omen/3] It was "a heavy robe lined with insulating fabric", gray and hooded, having been crafted from a lead-like alloy – strange, dense, and pliant – and woven into fine links.[1][Blood Omen/Miscellaneous][Blood Omen/7] Designed to contain and store the intense energy generated by DeJoule's body, it regulated her powers, preventing them from accidentally harming others, and herself. If forced to fight, though, DeJoule would "rip her robe off and let the energy shine through".[1][Blood Omen/Miscellaneous] The Cloak was the last Pillar token produced by the Energy of Pillar; it collapsed at the close of the Blood Omen era.[Blood Omen/12][2]

During his journey, the fledgling vampire and Balance Guardian, Kain, tracked down three members of the Circle of Nine in the Dark Eden Castle: Anarcrothe, Bane, and DeJoule. Anacrothe summoned Malek, and fled, but Kain called on Vorador to duel Malek, while he pursued Bane and DeJoule. DeJoule had been wearing the Cloak, but cast it off in the fray, turning the full brunt of her magics against the vampire. Kain prevailed, though, and claimed the Insulating Cloak and Bane's Antler Headdress. He subsequently recovered Malek's Helmet, and returned all three tokens to the Pillars. The corrupted Pillar of Energy accepted the offering, and was – for a short while – restored.[Blood Omen/7]

Behind the scenes[]

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain contains audio for an alternative, unused description for the Insulating Cloak. As noted at Dark Chronicle, it reveals that even the Circle of Nine were vulnerable to DeJoule's "magical aura":[3][Blood Omen/Cut content]

"The cloak stank of burned air. It was fashioned from an alloy akin to lead, and woven into fine links. The cloak's lining was scorched and melted. It served as an insulator, made to protect DeJoule's colleagues from her deadly radiance, lest it char and burn them to withered, smoldering husks."
―Kain (unused dialogue)[3][Blood Omen/Cut content]

Notes[]

  • DeJoule's Insulating Cloak is among the four Pillar tokens visibly worn or equipped as part of their owners' character design in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. The other three are Bane's Antler Headdress, Malek's Helmet, and Nupraptor's Head.[Blood Omen]
